Sao Paulo earned its way into the championship game of the 2022 FIBA Basketball Champions League Americas playoffs with a dominating performance against Minas, 93-79.
Sao Paulo led for all but 1:43 of the game after jumping out to an early 7-point first quarter lead. Minas rode the hot three-point shooting of Gui Carvalho to roar back and take the lead on the first basket of the second quarter, but Sao Paulo resumed control moments later and never looked back. Sao Paulo held Minas scoreless over the final four minutes of the second quarter and finished the half on an 11-0 run, going into the locker room with a 49-37 advantage.
Sao Paulo opened up its biggest lead of the game at 16 on a dunk by Bruno Caboclo with 2:37 to play. Caboclo finished with 28 points and 12 rebounds, playing all 40 minutes of the game.
Corderro Bennet added 19 for Sao Paulo, while Marquinhos Sousa added 15. Sao Paulo shot 52% from the floor for the game, and were 15/15 from the free throw line.
Renan Lenz led Minas with 22 points, while Carvalho finished with 16.
Sao Paulo will take on Bigua Saturday for the championship, while Minas will play Quimsa for third place
