The USA won the FIBA Women’s World Cup
USA won the FIBA Women’s World Cup for the fourth time in a row. As in some previous tournaments, they didn’t have too many problems in this one either. In the final of this year’s FIBA Women’s World Cup, the USA defeated China 83-61. We cannot say that we did not expect this outcome. The USA is definitely the best national team in recent years, which hardly anyone can seriously threaten. The national team dominating women’s basketball for years won the title at the FIBA Women’s World Cup 11 times. From 1998 until today, only Australia managed to win the championship cup in 2006. The final we watched this year in Sydney was not overly attractive.
Like most national teams, China offered solid resistance during the first half. China can boast that it lost the match in the group to the USA by “only” 14 points. In the final, the American women had only a five-point advantage at one point, 33-28. Then they made a run and got to +13, 43-30. In the second half, the Chinese women did not manage to find an answer for their rival. The American women increased their advantage, and at one point they had almost a 30-point advantage, 78-49.
Aja Wilson was the best in the USA
In the winning team, Aja Wilson scored 19 points with 5 rebounds. Kelsey Plum added 17 points. Jewell Loyd scored 11 points while Chelsea Gray added 10 points and 8 rebounds. As for the defeated team, Li Yueru had an excellent performance with 19 points and even 12 rebounds. Wu Tongtong added 13 points. The Chinese women can be satisfied with the fact that they provided a worthy resistance to the American women, at least in the first match. The USA demonstrated their strength in this championship and beat some opponents with more than 70 points advantage. The USA scored 145 points against South Korea.
Bronze medal for Australia
Unlike the USA, their neighbors from Canada failed to win a medal. At this year’s FIBA Womens World Cup, Australia won the bronze medal. The host of this year’s tournament convincingly defeated Canada 95-65. The Canadian women put up a decent resistance during the first half, but Australia was convincing in the rest. The match was marked by Lauren Jackson with 30 points and 7 rebounds. In the defeated team, Kia Nurse scored 19 points. In this way, Australia won a medal at the FIBA Womens World Cup for the third time in a row. Canada missed the chance to win a medal again after more than three and a half decades.
