Real Madrid vs Partizan Belgrade
Real Madrid conceded 40 points in the first period but ended up scoring more than 100 and got the 105-97 win over Partizan, making up for the bad defense in the first ten minutes in a spectacular way.
Sergio Llull with 20 points was the leading scorer, Walter Tavares had 17, Gabriel Deck, and Mario Hezonja scored 15 points each, while Dzanan Musa added 14.
The turning point of the game was defense with Madrid keeping Partizan to 11 points in the second quarter after a stellar first period in which the gusts had 8/12 threes, 4/6 two-pointers, and 8/8 free throws leading 40-32.
Real Madrid reacted with a 20-4 run to make the score 52-44, and the hosts closed the first half with a three-point advantage (54-51) after a buzzer-beating three by Danilo Andjusic who finished the night with 13 points.
There was no coming back for the guests after that. Madrid closed the third period leading by 12 (86-74) and made it a 15-point game (89-74) at the start of the fourth after a three by Hezonja.
Zach LeDay scored 20 points, Dante Exum had 17, Kevin Punter contributed 16, and James Nunally 15. It was a high-scoring affair but Real Madrid had things in check for 30 out of the 40 minutes of the game.
The “Whites” have now a 7-3 record thanks to their fifth straight win, good enough for a tie in the second place of the standings, while Partizan dropped to 4-6.
Fenerbahce vs Armani Milano
Fenerbahce is unstoppable and keeps on winning in the EuroLeague Regular Season, beating EA7 Emporio Armani Milan 82-72 on the road and holding on tight the first place (9-1) in the standings.
Nigel Hayes-Davis played another consistent game after his amazing performance against Monaco. The former Barcelona forward had 22 points and 5 rebounds, being an X-factor on both ends of the floor.
Marko Guduric played a big contribution to Fenerbahce‘s victory, ending the game with 11 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Nazareth Mitrou-Long was feeling confident, and he ended the game with 18 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists, being Milan’s highest scorer. However, he also had 7 turnovers.
The red-and-white team’s newest addition Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot had 15 points and 3 steals in his second EuroLeague game ever, starting the game once again from the first minute.
Devon Hall added 16 points shooting 6/6 at the charity stripe.
Despite starting the game hot and being up 35-19 with five minutes left in the second quarter, Milan couldn’t keep the intensity high on defense and conceded a 21-4 run that gave Fenerbahce its first lead of the game in the third quarter.
From then on, Dimitris Itoudis’ team hasn’t slowed down on offense, extending the Italian team’s losing streak to six consecutive games. Milan has now a 3-7 record in the EuroLeague.
Ettore Messina didn’t have Shavon Shields, who is expected to be out of action until 2023 and has been replaced by the newcomer Timothé Luwawu-Cabarrot.
Billy Baron, Stefano Tonut, and Gigi Datome were also out. The Italian head coach decided to bench Brandon Davies for the whole game.
As already known since the beginning of the season, Dimitris Itoudis didn’t have Nemanja Bjelica. DyShawn Pierre was sidelined as well due to a knee problem.
Olympiacos vs Alba Berlin
Sasha Vezenkov’s usual offensive output and Kostas Papanikolaou’s two-way contribution in his best game this season helped Olympiacos Piraeus bring down a very competitive ALBA Berlin team.
Vezenkov scored a game-high 24 points, grabbed six rebounds and had four steals while Papanikolaou posted 19 points plus nine boards as Olympiacos beat ALBA 86 – 76 to return to wins after losing at Maccabi Tel Aviv two days ago.
Olympiacos led for almost the entire fourth period but ALBA was always in hot pursuit until the last minutes. With the score 70 – 68 in the mid of the quarter, the Reds made a 12 – 4 run to enter crunch time at a safe distance.
Maodo Lo (12 points, seven assists) and Jaleen Smith (10 points, six rebounds) stood out from an ALBA squad that led 37 – 38 near the end of the first half despite committing 10 turnovers thanks to efficient shooting (9-12 2-pointers). While Olympiacos took the lead at the break (39-38) and kept it for the vast majority of the second half, the German side always remained a threat until the last stretch of the match.
Kostas Sloukas notched 12 points and 12 assists for Olympiacos while finishing with zero turnovers. Joel Bolomboy provided valuable assistance off the bench with 12 points along with some key defensive plays.
Crvena Zvezda vs Maccabi Tel Aviv
Fourth win in a row across all competitions since Dusko Ivanovic took over the head-coaching responsibilities. Crvena Zvezda mts edged Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv, 69-68, in Belgrade Thursday.
At the bottom end of the latest two-game week of the 2022-23 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season, Nemanja Nedovic logged five of his team-high 12 points in the fourth quarter of the Round 10 affair. Hassan Martin recorded six of his own 11 points in the last ten minutes.
Nevertheless, former Crvena Zvezda player Lorenzo Brown was all over the place in familiar territory. Driving the Israel giant, he poured 23 points with 7/16 field goals plus seven assists, six rebounds, and two steals. But fell short of sinking a game-winning buzzer-beater, similar to the January 2021 visit as a member of Fenerbahce Beko.
It was a grind with plenty of help from the fans packing Aleksandar Nikolic Hall. The reigning AdmiralBet ABA League champions, and league and cup holders in Serbia, were brilliant in defense, forcing tough options for Maccabi down the stretch and 15 turnovers overall for the night. They made it up to 4-6 with a third straight win in EuroLeague, also a third win in a row at home after dropping the opener.
Apart from Brown, Roman Sorkin provided pick-and-roll options and set his EuroLeague personal best at 16 points. Damaging the comeback bid, Jarell Martin fouled out with one minute left in the third quarter. Rafi Menco (illness) was sidelined along with Jake Cohen and Yiftach Ziv.
