Crvena Zvezda vs Virtus Bologna
Crvena Zvezda mts (5-6) looks unstoppable since coach Dusko Ivanovic took over. Nobody in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Euroleague has found the answer for Luka Vildoza, Nemanja Nedovic, and the rest of the red-and-white team from Belgrade.
Virtus Segafredo Bologna (4-7) had no chance in round 11 after playing bad defense in the second half and lost, 83-74.
Experienced Ivanovic took over from Vladimir Jovanovic, and Crvena Zvezda managed to beat ASVEL, Alba, Maccabi, and now Virtus.
A couple of big names were missing from this game, mainly Milos Teodosic who did not travel to Belgrade because of a suspension, and Crvena Zvezda was missing Nikola Ivanovic who broke three ribs and is looking at two months of rehabilitation.
Despite not having their playmaker in Teodosic, Virtus played great offense in the first half and had a double-digit lead in the second quarter (27-17). But that was the sign for Luca Vildoza to take things into his own hands. The Argentinian was on a roll, hitting from all positions beyond the arc. With four three-pointers, he recovered Crvena Zvezda back in the lead at half-time, 42-41.
But that was nothing compared to what happened in the third quarter. Crvena Zvezda was on fire, and Vildoza, Luka Mitrovic, Stefan Markovic, Ognjen Dobric, all had extended minutes on the court while the Italian side stood still as the game was slipping from their hands. They were down 12 points going into the fourth quarter.
Dobric got the job done for his team playing incredibly. He scored a season-high 20 points. Vildoza added 16, while Luka Mitrovic and Ben Bentil got 12 points.
On the other side, Mam Jaiteh had 15 points and nine rebounds.
Fenerbahce vs Real Madrid
Real Madrid started the season with many doubts, but the “Whites” proved in Istanbul that they are back on track for good.
The Spanish side got the 85-71 win against the top team in the standings after an impressive performance and climbed to an 8-3 record, while Fenerbahce dropped to 9-2.
Dzanan Musa with 18 points and Walter Tavares with 17 were the leaders of a balanced offensive effort. Gabriel Deck added 12 points for the winning side.
To be exact, the Spaniards shot 70% in two-pointers and 44% in threes and there was no answer from Fenerbahce to that kind of performance.
The guests started the game with a 25-16 lead and never looked back after that, having a 12-point halftime advantage (46-34) and entering the last quarter with a 14-point cushion (68-54).
Fenerbahce playing without injured Scottie Wilbekin got 20 points from Jonathan Motley and 15 from Devin Booker.
Zalgiris Kaunas vs Panathinaikos
Derrick Williams scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed five rebounds as Panathinaikos Athens beat Zalgiris Kaunas 67 – 81 on the road to capture its third straight EuroLeague win. Zalgiris lost for the first time at home this season after four victories.
Williams, who had 19 of his points in the second half, also hit a key 3-pointer for the 65 – 75 with 3:04 to play after Zalgiris had trimmed a 19-point third-period deficit to four at the beginning of the fourth quarter. Nate Wolters then pulled off a big play, blocking a 3-point attempt by Keenan Evans and then finishing with the layup on the other end. Panathinaikos retained a double-digit advantage until the end.
Evans finished with 18 points, five assists and three steals while leading Zalgiris’ comeback from down 28 – 47 with 11 points in the third quarter and the bucket for the 48 – 54. The Lithuanian side was 58 – 62 a minute into the fourth period but never managed to get at a shooting distance and fell apart down the stretch. Kevarrius Hayes (10 points) and Edgaras Ulanovas (10 points) also scored in double figures for the hosts.
Dwayne Bacon had 19 points (on 7-20 from the field) and eight rebounds for Panathinaikos. He dropped 11 of his points by the mid of the second period when the Greens took an 18 – 36 lead after an electric 11 – 27 start in the first nine minutes. Wolters contributed 11 points while George Papagiannis grabbed 13 rebounds to go with his six points.
Bayern Munich vs Maccabi Tel Aviv
Missing players for both teams with an additional in-game issue for FC Bayern Munich but the team guided by Andrea Trinchieri made it to the 98-89 victory against Maccabi Playtika Tel Aviv in Audi Dome Friday evening.
Among the ten players getting on the board in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague Regular Season Round 11, Michigan State product Cassius Winston produced a team-high 23 points. Elias Harris and Isaac Bonga followed with 14 and 12 points, respectively. Nick Weiler-Babb, Corey Walden, and Andreas Obst added ten points each.
Besides a few short-lived leads in the first half, the team coached by Oded Kattash was limited to catchup mode. Hot shooting for the home team, including 11/22 from beyond the arc, was the main response to Lorenzo Brown and his EuroLeague-high 36 points. The 32-year-old guard additionally dished out seven assists en route to a PIR of 43.
Four minutes in, Augustine Rubit suffered a groin strain and did not return further limiting Bayern’s options. Captain Vladimir Lucic (left elbow) and Niels Giffey (illness) were ruled out for the game along with Jason George (illness) and long-term absentee Zan Mark Sisko (personal).
From the weekend jump to 7-1 in Germany’s easyCredit BBL to 4-7 in EuroLeague. Only the second win in five outings at home this season. The visitors fell to 5-6 remaining the lone team without a win on the road.
Initially slated to go up against their former team, both Darrun Hilliard (suspension) and Wade Baldwin IV (hamstring) missed the trip to Germany. In an expanded role, Jalen Adams registered his first EuroLeague start and delivered 21 points behind 6/9 field goals in the losing effort.
The Yellows, 5-1 in Israel’s Winner League, will visit Hapoel Altshuler Shaham Beer Sheva/Dimona Monday. Back home for the next EuroLeague game against Valencia in Menora Mivtachim Arena Thursday.
Coming up next for the Munich outfit are a couple more games at home in quick succession, versus medi Bayreuth in the German Cup Quarterfinals Sunday and EWE Baskets Oldenburg in BBL Tuesday. The following Round 12 of the EuroLeague Regular Season brings up the trip to Vitoria-Gasteiz to take on Cazoo Baskonia Friday.
